20
Things I've
Learned After
20 Years
1. I am an agent for my clients; not for the airlines and tour companies.
2. People need someone to protect them from the capricious and often anti-consumer actions of airlines.
3. Personalized tours are much more meaningful than one-size-fits-all prepackaged tours, for both my clients and for me.
4. It is possible to provide expert corporate travel services and still only charge $15 as a service fee.
5. Good clients make great friends.
6. Daruta, Italy, is the best place to buy fantastic pottery.
7. Having close and trusted friends who give my clients personalized tours (Tuscany, Umbria, Scotland) is a real advantage.
8. Travel agents are back in style. When travel plans are disrupted by Nature or Humankind, clients are discovering they save hours, get on better alternative flights, and significantly lower their blood pressure when they can contact me for help, rather than a faceless website.
9. Scotland is a place to fall in love with—every loch and every glen.
10. Always book advance tickets to see Michelangelo’s "David," no matter the season.
11. You don't have to be an adventure freak—in fact you can be as clumsy as me—to still enjoy the Milford Trek and the Franz Josef Glacier in New Zealand.
12. There are few things more exciting than designing a honeymoon trip that yields lifetime memories for a couple.
13. Belonging to a consortium allows me to pass on to you the savings we receive for hotel and auto rental bookings.
14. Booking theater tickets and arranging limousine transfers from the airport are some of the little things clients really appreciate.
15. Corporate clients expect and deserve 24/7 service and that is what they get from us.
16. If you want to go somewhere warm during the holidays at the end of the year, you need to book it at least by spring of that same year.
17. Our Tuscan Woman’s Week is a great trip …
18. … and so is our week in the wine country in the Loire Valley!
19. Amsterdam is another must-see, and you must stop off in Brugge.
20. You must have tea at the Savoy in London at least once in your life.
