Day 1 -- USA to Europe
Your dream of Safari is only a day away as you depart for East Africa.
Day 2 -- Europe to Nairobi
Arrive this morning and connect with your flight to Kenya. Jambo na Karibu! Hello and welcome to Nairobi ("place of cool waters" in the Masai language).
Day 3 Sunday-- Nairobi
This morning is at leisure to gather your first impression of Kenya. This afternoon, you visit the Karen Blixen Museum, contained in the house which was her home for many years. Then drive to the Giraffe Center, headquarters for the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife. Take your camera! Dine as guests in a private home and enjoy a gourmet meal, infused with African flavors and hospitality.
Day 4 Monday-- Nairobi and Aberdares
Drive north to the Aberdare Country Club, located in the scenic forest of the Aberdare Mountains. It is home to a diverse range of forest animals including elephant, rhino, giant forest hog, waterbuck, suni, dik-dik, reedbuck, eland, bushbuck and the shy bongo. Enjoy nature close-up on an afternoon bush walk.
Day 5 Tuesday-- Aberdares and Mt. Kenya
Travel to the world renowned Mt. Kenya Safari Club, once an exclusive retreat for William Holden and other famous adventurers. Enjoy some leisure time strolling around the manicured grounds, visiting the animal orphanage or horse back riding, playing tennis, golfing or fishing.
Day 6 Wednesday-- Mt. Kenya and Samburu
Embark on a full day excursion into the Samburu Reserve. Stretching to the horizon and occasionally broken by mountains, Samburu is an arid and exciting land of scrub and semi-desert, sparsely populated by proud nomadic people. In Samburu we find Beisa oryx, gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, reticulated Giraffe, the Somali Ostrich and Guenther's dik-dik, species not seen in other areas of Kenya.
Day 7 Thursday-- Mt. Kenya and Sweetwaters
Your journey continues on to a luxurious camp at Sweetwaters for solitude, broad horizons and a stupendous view of snow capped Mt. Kenya. In the afternoon, travel by river boat to the Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Here, orphaned and abandoned chimps are rehabilitated and taught to fend for themselves in an area resembling their natural living conditions. Because this is a private property, a game drive will be taken at night to view animals not normally seen during daylight hours.
Day 8 Friday-- Sweetwaters and Masai Mara
Experience a new perspective of Africa as you fly to the fabulous Masai Mara, Kenya's premier game reserve, arriving in time for lunch and a game viewing drive. The Mara's tree flecked grasslands are frequented by huge herds of plains game, black maned lion, leopard, cheetah, large numbers of elephants, and a wide variety of birds and other animals. Return to camp in time for "sundowners" and to relax before dinner.
Day 9 & 10 Saturday & Sunday-- Masai Mara
Your camp is in a secluded part of the Mara which allows you to enjoy undisturbed game viewing. When not "out in the bush", you may relax by the heated swimming pool or sip a cool drink on your private verandah while watching hippos cavorting in the river. If you wish, you can arrange a visit to a local Masai Village and explore their interesting culture, or thrill to a hot air balloon ride across the Mara at dawn.
Day 11 Monday-- Masai Mara and Nairobi to Europe
After a final game run this morning to imprint the images of Africa in your mind, return by air to Nairobi. A day-room has been reserved until your evening departure flight to Europe.
Day 12 Tuesday-- USA
Return to the USA and home.
